This (not so Berkeley) mom has been feeling rather lazy lately. It’s been a few weeks since my last post and I’ve been sick with the flu the past month. Which also means the kids were sick too. The kids are all better now, finally, but I’m still fighting a cough and sore throat.
Last month, we went to Palm Springs to join Hubs for a conference. We stayed at the Riviera resort which had a Vegas-y club vibe, but was somehow child-friendly at the same time. There’s a kid-center on-site (which we never visited) and the grounds are fairly big, allowing the kids to run around and not seem like they were getting in anyone’s way. Most of the time, we just lounged by the pool.
And went outlet shopping at the Desert Hills Premium outlets in nearby Cabazon. Probably the best outlet mall around with all the big names like Prada, Gucci, YSL, Jimmy Choo, Marni and my personal favorites, James Perse and Splendid/Ella Moss.
Last week, we went to Lake Tahoe for five days of skiing and snowboarding – while the whole family was still sick. Despite being sick, it was a great trip with family and friends to celebrate my birthday, which at my age is no longer an occasion to celebrate. We rented a cabin in South Lake Tahoe, half a mile from Heavenly’s California Lodge. Since it was late in the ski season and Tahoe didn’t get much snow this winter, the mountain wasn’t crowded at all. We even got a nice dusting of snow one night which made for good powder the next day. We took our 2.75 year old son out skiing for the first time. We got tired of pushing him around at the bottom of the hill, so we put him on a lift and took him up the mountain so gravity could help us push him along. To our surprise, he didn’t freak out at all the first time riding high up on a ski lift and he had an easy time skiing down as we held him between our skis. However, my thighs felt the burn as I squatted down to hold him the whole way down the mountain. Can’t wait til we can send him off to ski school when he’s old enough next year.
So that’s what’s been going on with the NSBM while I’ve been away from blogging. In the meantime, I reached over 1,000 views of my blog. That’s a big milestone for me, so thanks to all of you for stopping by!
